No, you don't need any special equipment to practice Tai Chi. All you need is some comfortable clothing and a bit of open space.

Can I practice Tai Chi in a small space?

Yes, you only need enough room to reach your arms out to the side and the ability to take one step forward and one step back. You can also do all classes in a chair if needed!
